Paul Mcgarry the Lib Dem Candidate for East Kilbride South in the forthcoming Council Elections in the South Lanarkshire elections has slammed plans for housing proposals across East Kilbride South.
Paul McGarry, Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for East Kibride South has said that “We need to build communities, not just houses.”
The calls from Paul follow proposals for an extra 6900 homes to be built in the town.
Speaking of the plans, Paul said: “Whilst we have a strong need for affordable housing in the area, as indeed we do across the whole of Scotland, there’s something deeply troubling about how that challenge is being met by developers. It is time to think again!
“In recent months a number of development plans have been proposed for Jackton and leading up to Auldhouse.
“Yet the developers seem to have targeted East Kilbride South to build the majority of these houses with no regard to local needs or concerns. Enough is enough!
“It is time to stand up to the developers and make them think again. We cannot allow at a stroke, huge swathes of much-loved green space in our small community to be lost to bulldozers.
“Whilst this would be tragic in and of itself, the pressure these new homes will place on arterial routes and essential services will prove utterly unsustainable.”
We need more local facilities such as a provision for local shops, amenities and a community hall, these appear to have been an after thought after a decade of development in the local area.
