Paul is known for his year-round campaigns having previously stood as East Kilbride’s candidate for the UK and Scottish Parliament seeing significant increase in his vote on both occasions. Recent changes to the boundaries mean that like other Lindsayfield residents he has moved from the East Kilbride West ward to East Kilbride
Announcing his candidacy Paul McGarry said “The recent boundary changes have concerned many residents and following the recent announcement that East Kilbride south is one of the poorest areas in the constituency it was obvious to me that something must be done to ensure vital services are directed to the area and that East Kilbride South is no longer held back by the decade long squabble of Labour and SNP at South Lanarkshire Council.
Paul further added “I am not seeking to join the council to join the Labour/SNP squabble. I am seeking to join so that we can seek solutions and bring vital services back to the region.”
“I will be campaigning for safer streets, better lighting, stronger transport links, protect local services that so many vulnerable people in our community depend on, better standard of housing and more resources to our over-stretched schools.
“What is more, during this campaign we will be revealing our plans to tackle these issues and pay for these improvements.
Paul is standing to provide East Kilbride South with a genuine alternative to the two parties who have dominated conflict in our council over the last 20 years.
